I am a very relational therapist, I believe building and modeling a secure attachment allows clients to really experience meaningful change in the therapeutic process. I value creating a collaborative relationship where clients can express their needs and feel empowered in their care.
I work with people who often experience big emotions, feel misunderstood, and have likely experienced a lot of therapy with little movement. I work with people as young as 14 and have extensive experience with teens and young adults attempting to find their place in the world.
During sessions I will often let the client drive the conversation and will interrupt to provide tools, feedback, and coaching on techniques to challenge thought processes, identify patterns in relationships and dynamics, and to begin to identify root causes of what might be driving the behaviors and beliefs.
I deeply value authenticity and showing up as a real human in sessions. I was trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, mentalization-based therapy (MBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). I pull from each of these modalities as it fits my clients needs.
I often share with others that I was raised in the rooms of AA, my mother got sober when I was a young child and I often accompanied her to meetings. I additionally had an older brother who was 18 months older than me and struggled with substance use and mental health. These experiences I feel allowed me a special insight into the deep impact mental health and substance use can have on both an individual and the family system and this deeply guides my work today. Additionally, I am a mixed-race Latina, which I have often struggled with where I fit in culturally having not learned the Spanish language. I feel this allows me to understand others who too struggle with identity and mixed-race families.
